Clayton Woosley

Expedition Role: Field Assistant
Affiliation: SETI Institute

My name is Clay Woosley. I am 29 years old and was born in Southern California. I started working for SETI at NASA Ames Research Center when I was 20 years old as an engineering student at Santa Clara University. I received my BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1998 and continued working at NASA. Since then, I have helped design, build and operate Mars experimental apparatus for Mars geological studies in a lab. I have pursued my career in the semi-conductor industry as well. I tried switching careers completely when I became a financial advisor, but soon returned to what I love, engineering.

I returned to SETI/NASA in 2004 and I went on the High Lakes Expedition last year (2005). I learned a lot on this trip, including how to challenge and overcome my body when it's saying "no" to the next step on the mountain.

I have several interests that include snowboarding, jiu-jitsu and motorcycle riding. I am also a SCUBA diver and was certified when I was 14 years old. I enjoy backpacking as well, although I don't do that as much as I'd like. I enjoy spending time with the friends God has blessed me with from all areas and periods of my life. I recently got married to my wife, Sandy, and I love spending time with her as well. My favorite quote at the moment is "You can't be old and wise without being young and stupid." (anonymous). With that in mind, I have a lot to learn and I look forward to the journey ahead.
